Family Travels to Wildwood Inn

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Christmas has always been a time when ALL of our family make the best effort possible to be home for Christmas. Home is Wildwood Inn, and family numbers are in 25 – 30 so this is a big deal for us here at Wildwood Inn. Not only do we welcome our guests to their home away from home while at Wildwood Inn, we also welcome our family members as they make their way home for the Christmas holiday. Even though Estes Park and the Denver area (DIA) is not giving those travelers problems we have already started to experience some poor conditions for those traveling. We have had our son-in-laws parents from Great Britain have to cancel their trip to Estes Park altogether since travel in and out of Europe is basically at a standstill :(   On a happier note Quentin and Lucille’s (Owners) flight is on time and due to land any minute. Our daughter Erin is having a hard time with road closures on I-70 East bound, but last word traffic is starting to move. We will be very relieved when this first group of family arrives in safely, but very sad that our family over the waters can not be with us this year. Tomorrow brings another round of travelers coming from New York to our beautiful town to celebrate this glorious holiday.

Black Fox – Licorice

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Wow, what a great day yesterday was when looking out our lobby windows we spotted the black fox that we have named licorice. As many of you know fox mate for live and he and the red fox – Red Girl – as we have named her have made Wildwood Inn their home for a number of years. People very rarely get to see Licorice as he does most of his hunting when it is dark out, and does not come around the more populated areas of the property. I wish I would have had my good camera yesterday as with the telephoto lens I would have been able to get a really good shot, but instead my camera phone had to do. Below are a couple pictures we were able to get before he scampered off to do his hunting.

Waiting on some snow!

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

I don’t know if anyone else is feeling like we need some snow, but everyone at Wildwood Inn is hoping for some snow as it is so dry for all or our wildlife and plants, but it sure would be nice to have a white Christmas. The wildlife activity has been great lately with the large bull Elk roaming the mountain side in their ” bull” herd and our large Mule Deer herd seems like they grow in numbers every time we see them. The Big Horn Sheep have been sighted higher on the mountain side, but have not come down to much as the nice weather keeps them from needing to make their way to lower elevations for food.  We can not forget about our black male fox and his mate the red female fox they have been seen out hunting for their food and at times caught playing in the front lawn of the office. It is funny how each property has given different names to our wonderful wildlife herds that move through the neighborhood. I wonder if the Elk are getting a identity complex due to having so many different names? As the seasons change we go from our very small Hummingbirds that have found Wildwood Inn to be their main home for the warm months to the Large Elk that make their home here during the colder months. What a contrast we get to experience in a given year. If you have not experienced Wildwood Inn’s hummingbirds you are missing a fascinating experience, but that story will be saved for another day. Cheers

Christmas is in the air

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Wildwood Inn is ready for Christmas! Bob has been very busy doing the outside decorating and JilLayne and Cindy have been decorating the inside of many of the units as well as the office area. We do hope everyone can come up and stay with us while we have our decorations up, which will be through February.  Wildwood Inn would like to announce the arrival of baby Acacia, a beautiful healthy baby girl, born November 20th to Robin and Kyle. Many of you have either spoken with Kyle on the phone or have met him in person while staying with us here at Wildwood Inn, so next time you see Kyle ask him to see a picture as you know those proud papa’s he will be glad to show her off.

Christmas Parade

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

We hope many of you were able to come up for the Lighting of the lights parade which was the day after Thanksgiving. It was a huge success with a record turn out. The Estes Park Winter Festival had a float in the parade which Bob and Cindy did much of the work building and decorating. The float was constructed here at Wildwood Inn so many long days were put in to make the float a success. You can view the float pictures as well as information on  the Winter Festival at

Bob’s in the Hot Seat again :)

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

We had a bit of excitement this last Monday when Bob’s golf cart caught fire! Cindy got the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but the cart has a couple of batteries that are melted and it melted a hole in the fiberglass siding. We are not sure of the cause, and Bob is sort of bummed out because he really liked his golf cart!
